"I Gotta Rock"

Image
Who can ever forget the famous words of the beloved Peanuts character Charlie Brown. As Autumn approaches,  I am reading more and more blogs about Fall, and Halloween so I am reminded of one of my favorite Peanuts films,  "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!"  Poor Charlie Brown's Trick or Treating adventure turned into disappointment when all of his friends were delightfully shouting out all of the candy and goodies they received, only to find "a rock" in his trick or treat bag.  Well, unlike Charlie Brown, for as long as I can remember, I've always loved Rocks. (maybe not so much if I would have received them while Trick or Treating)  I remember every time I would travel with my parents, I would manage to find more rocks to bring home.  After a while, I had so many rocks, that Dad gave me his old fishing tackle box to store them in. This is an  Arkansas Quartz Crystal that I found and gave to my Mother when I was young.  This isn't

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

It's Sunday, and I decided to play along in my first photo challenge. SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY 1. Bokeh 2. Business 3. Eco-Friendly 4. Repetition 5. Music Here's my interpretation for this weeks challenge.  Bokeh Business Eco-Friendly Repetition Music Each week you are encouraged to take 5 new photographs. I must admit the "Music" photograph came from my photo archive.  As soon as I saw "Music" on the list I knew I wanted to use this photo because I liked how it turned out with the guitar reflection in the piano.  I took this photo about a year ago.  If you'd like to see more photos, or want to participate in the  Sunday Scavenger Hunt click  Here So, what have you been up to?  Have you taken any new photos this weekend? looking for seashells with Dad

Image
Hi friends!  Thank you for all of your comments about my last post, I had fun with that song! Now, if you're listening, take in the sounds of the ocean... Over the last few days I've been able to work on another fabric collage. This is me and my Dad taking a walk on Ocean Beach in Oregon 1966. I like to think that my love for the ocean began right here, on the beach, looking for seashells with Dad. Thanks for dropping by. Hope your week is off to a great start! Becca

Eternal Sunshine

After visiting one of my blog friends today,  www.azplantlady.blogspot.com Noelle's post got me thinking about what was blooming in my garden right now?  Noelle lives in a climate similar to mine when you compare summer temperatures, but the desert where she lives receives more rain in the summer, or what is known as the  monsoon season So, what's "blooming" in my garden right now?  Well, not that much really, it's all I can do to just keep what's still green from turning brown and crunchy from the high and dry heat. I'm not sure this thing is really working, but you get the idea.  Here's something in my garden that loves the dry desert soil and heat,  the Mexican Fan Palm. This thing grows like a weed here and eventually gets so tall you will probably have to hire someone to trim the palm fronds.  Humm, even the fake grass looks a little brown in this photo. LOL I guess that makes it appear more "real." Not exactly a desert tor

Learning to sew

Image
Hi everyone, as I mentioned last week, I have been practicing my sewing and followed the directions carefully and learned how to make a quilted book cover!  I know, this "quilting" part isn't considered difficult quilting, but for someone like me that is learning to sew on my own, I was pleased with how it turned out.  I have a friend at work that saw this and wants me to make one for her bible.  Hopefully, I can get the measurements right.   I'm more of a fabric, "collagey," "you want me to measure what?" kind of gal. LOL!  ...but, now I'm kind of tempted to try another one.  Maybe I'll get crazy and practice some "free motion" on the front instead of straight lines, what do you think?  I must tell you though, that my new blogging friend,  Jillayne , from "A Fine Seam"  www.quiltingfabrications.blogspot.com has encouraged me, and is helping me along over the internet, to learn some basic quilting tips, and a
